Jackie Boyczuk a freshman Biology major at West Virginia University was awarded a $500 scholarship from the GVBA in December 2006. Jackie has been interested in horses since she was five years old. She currently owns a Thoroughbred- cross who was bred in the Genesee Valley. As of 2007, Jackie will be showing the Adult Hunters in the various “A-Rated” Hunter shows in the area. She also owns a Thoroughbred- cross mare who will have her first foal in April.
Jackie has been an active volunteer for the GVBA Horse Show since her trainer, Karen Petersen, introduced her to the Annual Horse Fair about five years ago. Jackie has painted jumps, assisted others to create jumping courses, helped to send out the prizes lists, and has shown young horses. She has also shown her own horses at the show and has helped at the Show Secretary’s booth accepting entries for the jumpers. She is a tireless volunteer who loves to work with horses and enjoys competing. She is currently riding on the West Virginia University equestrian team.
Jackie hopes to complete her biology degree and see where her interests take her.
She is very grateful to the G.V.B.A. for selecting her as a recipient of this year’s scholarship. |
